The Ask

Disney commissioned us to produce an animated video elucidating the historical significance of Juneteenth. The project entailed creating illustrations for a :45 broadcast segment on the Disney Channel, which we will brought to life through animation.

The Process

I began by dissecting the provided script and voiceover, systematically analyzing each line to extract key concepts and themes. Through this process, I generated comprehensive notes to capture the essence of the narrative. Delving deeper into these concepts, I constructed a detailed mind map, exploring potential imagery and visual motifs.

Drawing inspiration from this brainstorming session, I embarked on the initial phase of storyboard development, translating ideas into rough sketches. Subsequently, I seamlessly integrated these sketches with the voiceover to create an animatic, offering the client a glimpse into the envisioned animation sequence.

Upon finalizing the frames and storyboard layout, I transitioned to refining the visuals using Adobe Illustrator, ensuring each frame was meticulously crafted to perfection. These refined frames were then passed on to the animators, serving as a blueprint for the animation process. Throughout this collaborative endeavor, I provided detailed guidance and direction based on the intricacies of the storyboard, facilitating the seamless execution of transitions and animations.
